Justin Langer appointed as Head Coach of Lucknow Super Giants

Former Australia coach Justin Langer has been appointed as the new head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants for the next two seasons, the franchise announced on Friday.

Langer, who stepped down as Australia coach in February after seven years in the role, replaces Andy Flower, who left the Super Giants at the end of the 2022 season.

The 52-year-old Langer is a highly respected figure in the cricket world, having led Australia to the 2019 World Cup title and a number of other major trophies. He is also known for his tough but fair approach to coaching.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Lucknow Super Giants,” Langer said in a statement. “I have been impressed with the ambition of the franchise and the way they have built a team that I believe can be successful in the IPL.”

“I am looking forward to working with the players and staff to help them achieve their goals,” he added.

The Super Giants finished their debut season in the IPL in sixth place, but they have a number of talented players in their squad, including Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul, and Marcus Stoinis.

KKR reportedly in talks with Gautam Gambhir for the position of Head Coach

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly in talks with former India opener Gautam Gambhir for the position of head coach.

Gambhir, who is currently the mentor of the Super Giants, is seen as a strong contender for the role at KKR. He has a wealth of experience in the IPL, having played for the franchise for eight seasons and also serving as captain for two years.

KKR are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Brendon McCullum at the end of the 2022 season. The franchise finished the season in seventh place, their worst performance since 2013.

Gambhir is said to be keen on the KKR job and is reportedly in advanced talks with the franchise. A decision is expected to be made soon.

The appointments of Justin Langer and Gautam Gambhir as head coaches of the Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively, are two of the biggest coaching moves in the IPL this season.

Langer is a proven winner who has a wealth of experience at the highest level. He will be looking to bring his winning mentality to the Super Giants and help them achieve their goals.

Gambhir is also a well-respected figure in the cricket world and has a deep understanding of the IPL. He will be hoping to use his experience to help KKR improve on their recent performances.

It will be interesting to see how these two coaches fare in their new roles and whether they can help their respective teams win the IPL title.
